# 6. Connect the optional relay

Connect the relay’s network and control paths, then prepare for a witnessed functional test.

{% hint style="info" %}
**No relay installed?** Mark the relay section of your worksheet **N/A — not installed** and [continue to verification](/installation-guide/verify.md). A relay that is installed but not tested must be recorded as **pending**, not N/A.
{% endhint %}

## Before you start

This step is for the site’s qualified controls installer, working with the site lead and LiveReach deployment contact. Have the approved site controls drawing, the exact relay model’s manual, and the agreed functional-test procedure ready.

The relay options in this guide are **ADAM-6060** and **Moxa ioLogik E1214**. Use the documentation matching the unit installed:

* [Advantech ADAM-6000 series manual and model list](https://www.advantech.com/en-us/support/details/manual?id=1-95WMW)
* [Moxa ioLogik E1214 product documentation](https://www.moxa.com/en/products/industrial-edge-connectivity/controllers-and-ios/universal-controllers-and-i-os/iologik-e1200-series/iologik-e1214)

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Use the approved wiring design.** The network diagrams specify Ethernet connections only. Terminal assignments, output channels, electrical ratings, contact behavior, and reset behavior depend on the installed hardware and site controls design. Resolve missing wiring instructions before connecting or enabling the output.

{% step %}

### Connect the relay to SafeTunnel’s network

Power and mount the relay according to its manual. Connect Ethernet according to the [selected network layout](/installation-guide/network.md): to the shared switch in setup 1, directly to SafeTunnel’s Ethernet port configured for the relay in setup 2, or to the camera / relay switch in setup 3. Have LiveReach identify the correct physical socket on SafeTunnel before using the direct connection.

Have the network administrator and LiveReach confirm addressing and relay reachability from SafeTunnel. Record the relay model, device identifier, address, and connection in the worksheet.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Complete the controls connection

Under the site’s isolation procedure, the controls installer completes the wiring using the approved drawing. Record the drawing revision, output channel, destination controller/input, and intended response.

Have the controls installer and LiveReach confirm that the output mapping in the configuration matches the wiring. Document expected operation, reset/restart responsibilities, and the response to power or communication loss from the approved design. Do not assume these behaviors from the relay model or Ethernet connection.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Prepare the witnessed test

Agree the safe test conditions, personnel, expected response, and recovery procedure before operating the output. Use the site-approved commissioning procedure with LiveReach and the controls installer. Keep people clear of operating equipment.

During [verification](/installation-guide/verify.md), record the actual end-to-end response of the configured system and controller. A network response, status indicator, or relay click alone is not proof that the intended conveyor response occurred.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Check before continuing

* [ ] Relay identity and network path are recorded.
* [ ] SafeTunnel can reach the configured relay.
* [ ] Controls wiring and output mapping match the approved drawing.
* [ ] The site lead, controls installer, and LiveReach have agreed the test and recovery procedure.
